!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (or rather more accurately your weight to power ratios) and to find out how much hp a car really needs. I figured we can settle this because Oppo is a pretty good representation of what the car enthusiasts needs. I got 14 car responses and a few bikes. The result is:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

17.73 lbs/hp including trucks and outlyers like old american iron.

and 14.47 removing those lard butts.

That means that, depending on whose statistic you want to believe, the average car in america that weighs ~3200 lbs should have ~221 hp. Here is a table to make it handy:

One point for every HP you are over the chart.

You’re telling me, Looking at 5000 lbs i am 134 hp down. Looking at the 3200 range I’m STILL 83 hp down.

5200lbs / 359hp ???

I can double my 159hp and it still won’t be enough according to your chart.

You hp is inadequate sir. Don’t feel bad, mine is too. However, looking at the ~2500 lbs Miata having only 167 hp...I’d say the chart is pretty close.

Sweet, if the numbers are right my Mazda 6 S V6 has an ideal power-to-weight ratio

I think that 300 hp 3000lbs is the golden ratio.

Hmm... I am down by a single horsepower according to the chart. It is a V8 though (lots of low end power.)

I would be interested to see something similar by GVWR. I can do the math if you guys want to list them in responses to my comment.
